Where did the idea for the TLC drive come from?

When Tricia Chaves, creator of Cover Look Collection made the decision to cut her hair in 2012, she knew she wanted to do more than simply change her look. She planned to donate her hair, but thought, “Why do it alone?” So she enlisted the help of some of her pro team partners to help "grow" her contribution.

What are the goals and objectives of the TLC drive?

  • Collect 1,000 ponytails worldwide to make wigs for women with cancer or undergoing treatment who cannot afford them.
  • Spread the word about the process of hair donation, so it becomes "common knowledge" among stylists and the general public.
  • Assist in the creation of a global network of free wig banks and hair donation programs so people around the world can benefit.

How will the drive work, exactly?

We are gathering ponytail pledgers and hairstylist volunteers to connect worldwide.

A team of celebrity beauty pros will donate makeovers to a group of lucky ponytail donors and one all-star recruiter (who helps us secure the most pledges for and stylist participants) will receive hair extensions valued at $10,000 from Mahri Martens Tomas.

When will the drive take place?

We're kicking off the drive during the month of October '12 and will host annual group cutting events worldwide each September. Participating salons can collect donations year-round.

Who can donate a ponytail to the TLC drive?

Anyone with a ponytail that’s at least 8 inches long, no more than 5% gray and "virgin" hair (untreated with harsh chemicals) qualifies.

What can I do to help TLC if I cannot donate my hair, or don’t want to?

Please pledge to
volunteer your time or resources - no matter how big or small, your support makes a difference!

Is TLC a 501(c) nonprofit?

Not at this time; however, hair donations will benefit the charitable organization Beautiful Lengths. Our work will be made possible through volunteer efforts and generous sponsorships to offset costs and assist in promotion.

Why is Beautiful Lengths receiving the proceeds?

We chose to donate to Beautiful Lengths because the program offers wigs free of charge via American Cancer Society wig banks, rather than on a sliding fee scale.
